I. Update on Freedom Scientific answer regarding tabbing issue
RD: We opened a server to freedom scientific and they think it
is someting on their end. They have registered

it as a bug in Jaws. I will keep on FS and WebCT to get the
problem fixed. They will release in a future

release, probably 7.0.

PK: They just released a new version 6.2.

HR: WIll it require a paid upgrade.

PK: You need a current SMA. You cannot use the floppy
authorization codes.

*** more discussion of JAWS authorization codes ******

HR: Have you heard anything else from FS? Is there anything
we can do speed up the process.

RD: Jon G name seemed to help.

PK: We could use the meeting at UIUC to write a letter to FS
on this issue.

Action PK: Draft a letter to FS

PK: This may mean it doesn't work until 7.1

RD: Potential work arounds suggested by FS:
1. List of links
2. Navigation by line
3. Next previous quickeys
4. Turn off virtual mode

DS: There seems to be some new keys

II. Update on fixing already reported issues to WebCT
DS: I have the list Hadi made with priorities

Multilanguage support:
a. Fix available in Vista 4.0 and CE 6.0 and as a hot fix for
Vista 3.x

Quiz Time Information:
a. I am proposing a fixing the quizing system through a total
redesign and fix accessibility the accessibility

problems for good.

Page Headings
a. We started create pages using unique H1
b. JRG suggested the TITLE element in the HEAD also to be a
unique link

Data Tables
a. We typically do proper table headings (TH, CAPTION)

JRG: Suggested using ID and Headers

Discussion of the use of data tables

RD: I was thinking more of the tables used for formatting, but
we can put ID and HEADERS as a coding change

PK: No captions on layout tables

HR: I agree

RD: We will use Headers not CAPTION

Specific Browser Support/Web Standards
RD: We do support a number of different browsers
RD: We are working on font-sizing within the application
RD: This is per user configuration option

Discussion of FONT selection

RD: Actually open up WebCT stylesheets and users could change
anything they want
RD: Make some sort of interface to the stylesheets
RD: The style sheets are complex
KW: A interface would probably be the best
RD: We are looking at a number of different levels and trying
to figure out
HR: Sometimes users have special needs and give them the most
PK: We have non-traditional students who doesn't understand
browser font control features
PK: The simplier the better to help low tech users
DS: SOmeone who doesn' understand CSS, they will be lost
DS: If we provide some simple functions it might help alot of
people without much training.
HR: I am concerned about the size function not allowing reflow
DS: It will be CSS based
HR: We need to give them a default feature
PK: Section 508 website gives 6 options

HR: Any other comments

III. Upcoming WebCT conference

HR: I am going to the WebCT conference and I will be meeting
with RD and Chloe Morrow from WebCT
RD: There are a few developers attending the conference
HR: It will help me in my preparation to know who I am talking to
RD: Chloe is director of Product managers and so she is pretty
high up in the comapny and making decisions of

feature. This meeting is your meeting.

JRG: We need to look at a higher level issues in terms of features

DS: Having specific problems helps gets problems solved

KW: What I would like to see a team of students using AT
testing these new versions before they are released. It is
one thing for RD to do testing, but I would like to see some
real user testing. SO we don't have after the fact fixing the

DS: I agree with you 100%. A great idea.

KW: Even now with all the stuff we have looked at there is
still alot to do.

PK: Getting information from standards doesn't

JRG: DO you do usability testing for people without disabilities?

RD: Yes we do many types in user testing.

HR: I brown bag by Esa Rantanen about Human Factors issues
with WebCT. We maybe send the information.

JRG: Job number one is "Usability Testing" using people with

PK: Design with standards does not gaurentee accessibility

JRG: Web Application development

PK: The help system and tutorials on how to design course
materials to be accessible

PK: Videos on how people with screen readers
